The resource brings together the maps of flood envelopes of the Rhône for different Rhone flood scenarios developed to represent the evolution of these flood envelopes according to the intensity of these floods.
The resource is the result of a multi-step approach.
1- construction of hydrological flood scenarios of the Rhône integrating the inputs of the main tributaries and the operation of hydroelectric facilities in the Rhône
2- Hydraulic modelling of water levels achieved for each flood scenario
3- Determination of flood envelopes for each flood scenario from calculated water levels
The resource was developed in order to have information on the potential consequences of floods in the Rhône and to build benchmarks for the exploitation of forecasting and crisis management.
Choices were made regarding the parameters of flood formation (influent behaviour) and the operation of hydroelectric facilities that can introduce significant variability in the scenarios. These choices therefore do not accurately reflect all the configurations encountered in real situations. A real-time analysis of the situation needs to be done to make relevant use of the resulting maps.
Provide for each Rhone flood scenario a total flood envelope and envelopes of water height classes.
Script titles Q2, Q5,..., Q1000 are used conventionally to name scripts/maps, not precisely to describe a flood occurrence. For the use of maps, these words correspond to a debit to be identified sector by sector or to a rating at a forecast station.
The odds at the forecast stations to be attached to each scenario, or the flow rates where there is no station, are displayed at the same time as the envelopes.
The operating hypotheses of hydroelectric installations appear with the flow information flowing into each milling arm, for each scenario.
Mapped envelopes represent only the Rhone floodwater levels, with no extension to the envelopes to be connected to water levels on tributaries in confluence areas. Information on the flood envelopes of the tributaries should be juxtaposed considering the appropriate flood scenario of each tributary.
