The geographic database CORINE Land Cover is produced in 39 European states, as part of the European Land Monitoring Programme of Copernicus, led by the European Environment Agency.
This biophysical land use inventory provides a complete photograph of land use at regular frequencies. Detailed knowledge of land use is crucial for environmental observation. Artificialisation, in particular, is a major challenge. Soil transformation leads to the loss of agricultural land, the destruction and partitioning of natural spaces and habitats. Corine Land Cover allows a standardised and homogeneous collection of land data at European level to support the development of environmental policy. In this way, it is a reference tool.
The producer for France is the Department of Data and Statistical Studies of the Ministry of Ecology, with since 2018, the National Institute of Geographical and Forestry Information (IGN).
The CORINE Land Cover is available for the following years: 1990, 2000, 2006, 2012 and 2018. These state bases are accompanied by the bases of change 1990-2000, 2000-2006, 2006-2012 and 2012-2018 (data on portions of the territory having changed land use between two dates).
