WFS Service — Environmental monitoring is a process of observing the state of the environment involving one or more matrices such as ambient air and dust deposition, surface water, plants or soils. This observation is based on a measuring device positioned at one or more sampling points. Its objective is to verify that the activity of an industrial site does not affect the immediate environment of the industrial site. It should be noted that “environmental monitoring” differs from “self-monitoring” which seeks to verify the emissions from the site at each discharge point (fireway,...).
Environmental monitoring may result from a regulatory obligation (e.g. for incinerators, for installations in the cement or stationery sector, etc.) or following the conclusions of an approach to interpreting the state of the environment and assessing the associated health risks (IEM/ERS). Environmental monitoring is prescribed in the prefectural decrees of the sites concerned.
The prescribed environmental monitoring is specific to the activity of each site and depends on its immediate environment (presence of sensitive establishments such as crèches, cultivated land, etc.). The environmental monitoring matrices thus differ according to the sites and substances to be monitored.
Environmental monitoring of a site is not frozen over time: it has to evolve according to the industrial context (reduction or increase in production capacity...) and/or the environment (creation of a subdivision near the site for example).
The data from this mapping came from a census work carried out in 2020: 81 sites have been identified in the region. The mapping details the sector of each activity of each site covered by the monitoring and specifies the nature of the matrices investigated. The data will be updated regularly.
