A mud is a coastal, estuarine, submarine or freshwater habitat consisting of fine, non-sandy sedimented materials. As a natural habitat, a mud is a natural sedimentation zone,1 but there are more artificial situations (e.g. due to the construction of a large dam or the regulation of the course of a river), which can provide alternative habitat for wildlife, if they are not polluted and if they retain some naturality in their ecological functioning. It is called “intertidal” if it is located between the high and low levels of the tide.
Following a census requested by the Prefect and carried out in coastal and estuarine municipalities, an inventory of mudflats and risk areas was carried out. Details of this survey can be found on the website of the State Services in Côtes-d’Armor at:
