The identification of sports equipment, spaces and practice sites (RES) covers, with the stated objective of completeness, all facilities, in service, public or private, open to the public free of charge or for a fee. The essential criterion is that any person can access it (individually or through a public or private [associative or commercial] structure), either free of charge or for a fee, with the main objective of engaging in physical and/or sporting activity. The census establishes within this framework 30 large families of sports equipment disaggregated in 160 types.
Sports facility is a place characterised by an address, where one or more sports equipment are installed, with or without limiting enclosures.
In the case of a single equipment, the usual names of the installation and equipment may be identical and/or correspond to a sports equipment nomenclature (Ex: Multi-sport room). The geographies governing the census are those in effect on January 1, 2013
