The hazard map is a summary document that presents the boundaries of the reference flood field as well as the intensity of the different parameters characterising the flow of floods (submersion height, flow rate, etc.). This map is representative of the centennial flood phenomenon.
The notion of hazard is related to the importance of the natural flood phenomenon and its probability of occurrence. The hazard depends only on the climatic, hydrological and hydraulic conditions of the site concerned. Therefore, the concept of hazard is independent of the land use likely to be flooded.
Thus, two levels of hazard are distinguished:
— Strong if water height >1 m or current velocity >1m/s
— Medium if water height <1 m and current velocity <1 m/s
