Temporary restriction of access to the DPMN of Île aux Moutons and its islets, from 1 April to 31 August, pursuant to the Prefectural Order of 19 March 2021, in order to preserve the nesting of several species of protected birds.
Île aux Moutons and its islands are a site with high stakes for nesting and breeding of several protected bird species. This island refuge is home to the largest colony of terns in France (Caugek, Pierregarin and Dougall) and accounts for 63 % of the Breton population. These species are highly sensitive to disturbances and are subject to protective measures: the sector is classified by two orders protecting biotope (prefectural decree of 3 June 1999 land part and ministerial decree of 23 December 2004 marine/forestry). In addition to the terns, two species of coastal limiculture also nest at this site, the interrupted collared gravel and the bored oyster.
Thus, in order to protect these species and their breeding sites, a Prefectural Order (PA) was issued on 19 March 2021 and introduced a temporary ban on access to dependencies in the maritime public domain (DPM), pursuant to the Ministerial Order of 2004, establishing a biotope protection zone of the island of Moutons (Moelez) and the islets Enez Ar Razed and Penneg Ern, municipality of Fouesnant.
Access and movement of persons are therefore prohibited, from 1 April until 31 August of each year, on the foreshore in the defined area (includes the rocky plateau of the DPM surrounding Île aux Moutons and its two islets, to the low sea mark* coefficient 120).
These restrictive measures shall be taken for 2 years, 2021 and 2022 with possible renewal following the evaluations and results of the follow-ups. This AP DPM is therefore restricted in time and space (nesting areas).
*The low sea mark is the boundary of the foreshore area which is discovered by the sea only exceptionally, in the event of a particular meteorological phenomenon (e.g. storms).
