Dataset description

Vulnerable areas are land designated in accordance with European Directive No. 91-676. A vulnerable area is a part of the territory where water pollution by direct or indirect discharge of nitrates of agricultural origin or other nitrogen compounds that may become nitrates threatens in the short term the quality of aquatic environments and, in particular, the supply of drinking water. Areas where groundwater and surface fresh water, in particular those used or intended for water abstraction for human consumption, with a nitrate content of more than 50 milligrams per litre shall be considered as vulnerable zones. A Regional Action Programme (RAP) is being implemented, setting out the requirements to be met by all farmers in the corresponding vulnerable area. It is constructed in consultation with all relevant stakeholders, based on a local diagnosis. It aims to correct the most pollution-generating practices. It is within the framework of this PAR, established by Prefectural Decree 2018-403 of 9 August 2018, that certain communal territories in the region are subject to a particular vegetation cover intended to limit nitrogen leakage during rainy periods: behind corn grain, sorghum or sunflower, fine grinding of canes without burial of residues, given the high risk of soil erosion.
