In order to achieve the objectives of good environmental status, the 2006 Law on Water and Aquatic Environments (LEMA) reaffirmed the need to restore ecological continuity by providing for the revision of classifications.
Thus, the new classifications introduced by Article 6 of the LEMA and set out in Article L214-17 of the Environmental Code and its regulatory part make it possible to adapt the previous devices to the new context. They present two stream lists (List 1 and List 2).
Objectives of the list 1: preserving streams or stretches of watercourses:
— in very good environmental status,
— “organic reservoirs”, with a rich biodiversity playing the role of nursery,
— requiring full protection of amphihalin migratory fish.
Consequence: prohibition of building any new obstacles to ecological continuity, regardless of their use.
This JDD was created on the perimeter of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region during the heritage harmonisation project,
the former Aquitaine, Limousin and Poitou-Charentes regions.
