These maps represent the noise-affected sectors as decided by the Prefect as part of the noise classification of road land transport infrastructure. These maps were therefore not computed in the context of the present study, but prepared by the competent State services and issued by the Prefect.
Noise classification of infrastructure is the preventive part of the national policy to combat noise from land transport, introduced by Law No 92-1444 of 31 December 1992 on noise control.
It results in the classification of the road network into sections to which a noise category is assigned, as well as the definition of ‘noise-affected’ sectors in which the buildings to be built must have enhanced acoustic insulation.
The width of the sectors affected by noise on both sides of the infrastructure, between 10 m and 300 m, is laid down in Article 4 of the Decree of 30 May 1996 according to the category of track — category calculated according to different criteria (traffic, speed, type of street, etc.)
The roads concerned have been selected in accordance with the Prefectural Decree approving strategic noise maps of the Land Transport Infrastructures whose annual traffic is more than 3 million vehicles in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques department. (Prefectural decree of 12 October 2018 n°64-2018-10-12-001).
