The Ministry responsible for the environment launched in 2007 the realisation of the national inventory of geological heritage, paying geodiversity of the natural heritage, like the ZNIEFF for the biodiversity slope. This mission is delegated to the DREALs in the regions. The inventory of the geological heritage of the Auvergne-Rhône Alpes region now (March 2021) has 462 sites validated by the National Museum of Natural History and integrated into the national inventory (INPG). Some 30 others are under consideration and will be reviewed by the GRC, the NNCSC and the National Commission. Prior information will be provided to the communities.
