Dataset description
The production of strategic noise maps is framed by the following texts, which specify, inter alia, the methods of calculation, the indicators to be used and the expected results:
— Articles L.572-1 to L.572-11 of the Environmental Code relating to the drawing up of noise maps and plans for the prevention of environmental noise and amending the urban planning code;
— Articles R.572-1 to R.572-11 on the drawing up of noise maps and environmental noise prevention plans and amending the urban planning code;
— its implementing decrees of 3 and 4 April 2006 on the drawing up of noise maps and plans for the prevention of environmental noise.
Strategic noise maps are intended to represent a level of noise discomfort at a reference moment. They are developed by acoustic modelling software that takes into account the source of noise generated by car traffic, as well as many elements of the context such as topography, authorised speed or surrounding buildings.
They are achieved by means of two harmonised indicators: Lden (Level Day Evening Night) and Ln (Level Night). Lden represents the average noise over the whole day of 24 hours and Ln the average noise over the night period 10 p.m. — 6 o'clock.
The graphic documents produced thus allow to represent:
— areas exposed to noise using isophone curves.
Two types of cards are generated: one shows isophone curves in steps of 5 dB(A) (type A maps), the others show areas where limit values are exceeded (type C maps).
