Watercourses or portion of watercourses to be bordered by grassed strips under good agricultural and environmental conditions (GAEC) in the context of cross compliance, as defined by the Prefectural Decree of 06/05/2006.
All farmers who have farmland located within 5 metres of the edge of a GAEC river are required to establish a buffer strip along those streams of a minimum width of 5 metres. The retained streams appear in full blue line on the IGN charts at the latest 1/25 000th and the discontinuous blue lines following the full blue line bearing the same name. The authorised cutlery are grassy, permanent and sufficiently covered.
Conditionality, introduced in 2005, ensures a more sustainable agriculture and thus promotes a better acceptance of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) by citizens.
This system makes the payment of Community agricultural aid subject to compliance with basic environmental requirements, good agricultural and environmental conditions (GAEC), health and animal protection. All farmers are affected.
These rivers were first defined in the inter-ministerial circular Map-Medd DGFAR/SDSTAR/C2005-5046 of 27 September 2005, pursuant to the Order of 12 January 2005 for the application of Articles R.615-10 and R.615-12 of the Rural Code and on environmental cover and rotation rules.
