The law for the recovery of biodiversity, nature and landscapes, published in the Official Gazette of 9 August 2016, defines the concept of watercourses. In order to raise awareness of the parts of the hydrographic network which are to be regarded as rivers, the State services have drawn up, on the basis of a concerted identification methodology, a mapping of the flows already known in the department of Cantal by determining, where the available analysis is sufficient, their status under the water law, and if not, specifying the methods to be used to enable them to be characterised.
