The purpose of pedestrian easement on the coast is to ensure pedestrian passage exclusively along the coastline and to provide them with free access to the coastline.
As a general rule, a longitudinal passage easement at the shore of the sea strikes private properties along the public maritime domain on a three-metre wide strip, but the administrative authority may decide to modify the route or characteristics of the easement in order to ensure, in particular, taking into account the presence of obstacles of any kind, the continuity of pedestrian movement or their free access to the shoreline of the sea. The modified route may exceptionally encumber non-river properties of the public maritime domain.
