— Location rules/L 111-6
‘Outside the urbanised areas of the municipalities, constructions or installations shall be prohibited in a strip of 100 metres on either side of the axis of motorways, express roads and diversions within the meaning of the Highway Code and seventy-five metres on either side of the axis of other roads classified as high traffic. That prohibition shall also apply in a band of 75 metres on either side of the roads referred to in Article L. 141-19.

“...In municipalities with a municipal map, the municipal council may, with the agreement of the prefect and after consulting the departmental commission responsible for nature, landscapes and sites, lay down rules for the establishment of sites different from those provided for in this article in the light of a study which justifies, depending on the local characteristics, that these rules are compatible with the taking into account of the
nuisances, safety, architectural quality, as well as the quality of urban planning and landscapes....”

‘The natural parts of the banks of natural or artificial bodies of water with an area of less than one thousand hectares shall be protected for a distance of three hundred metres from the shoreline. All new constructions, installations and roads, as well as all extractions and scouring are prohibited.
These provisions apply to bodies of water partly located in mountain areas.
However, the following may be excluded from the scope of this Article:
(1) By order of the prefect coordinator de massif, water bodies of which less than a quarter of the shores are situated in the mountain area;
(2) By a local planning plan, a territorial coherence scheme or a municipal map, certain water bodies according to their small importance.

By way of derogation from Article L. 122-12, construction and fitting-out may be permitted, depending on local circumstances, in certain defined sectors:

(2) By means of a municipal map, with the agreement of the prefect, after consulting the departmental commission responsible for nature, landscapes and sites, and in the light of a study justifying that the development and urbanisation of these sectors are compatible with taking into account the quality of the environment and landscapes (...)
