Exceptional transport means the transport or movement of goods, machinery or vehicles the dimensions and/or mass of which exceed the statutory limits laid down in the Highway Code. The Highway Code specifies the definition of exceptional transport in Article R.433-1 and the traffic principles of this type of transport in sections R.433-2 to R.433-4 and R.433-6. Exceptional transport must be subject to prefectural prior authorisation.
