In order to solve the problem of illegal anchorages or boring anchorages likely to affect the condition of Posidonia grasslands, temporary occupancy authorisations (TAO) for individual anchorages are issued by the Prefect of Var.
Grouped in 76 areas along the coast, these AOTs, like any occupation of the outbuildings of the public maritime domain (DPM) are precarious and revocable (Articles L2122-1 to L 2122-3 of the CGPPP), issued in a personal capacity and are subject to a public fee by its beneficiary (Articles L 2124 of the CGPPP) paid to the Directorate of Public Finance (Service Local du Domaine).
The implementation of this scheme shall take account of Natura 2000 areas, involving regulations for the mooring system adapted for the conservation of fauna such as herbarium of posidonia or other (ecological wetting).
The ultimate objective is to reduce the number of AOT areas and to convert those that will be maintained into Zmel (wetting and light equipment areas).
