Methanisation is a biological process that makes it possible to produce biogas (methane) generated by biowaste and to use it as an energy source with a return to the soil of the digestate (methanisation residue).
Methanisation units produce energy (biogas) from the treatment of livestock manure, sewage treatment plant sludge and/or waste from agri-food industries. The biogas produced is either injected into the gas grid after treatment, or used in a cogeneration engine (electricity and heat generation) or used on-site in a boiler.
With several facilities on the department, this sector is in strong progress and has the particularity of being at the crossroads of several issues: energy (recovery of biogas in the form of electricity, heat, biomethane or biofuel), waste management (recovery of organic matter and reduction of landfill), climate (decrease in greenhouse gases by methane capture) and agriculture.
