Given the nature of the underground work carried out on the coal basin as a whole, several types of ground movements can be identified:
. the collapse: this type of movement is usually manifested by the sudden surface appearance of a collapse crater whose geometric characteristics depend on the deep initiator phenomenon and the behavior of the underlying terrain.
. of subsidence: it corresponds classically to a flexible movement or breaks to the right of underground work, it is manifested by the appearance of depression in the form of bowls often overflowing from the strict grip of the work accompanied by fractures for the brittle hazard.
. earth-moving: this type of movement is characterised by a re-compaction of a locally furnished solid or affected by underground work linked to major variations in environmental conditions or overload. Earthworks may appear above underground areas, depot works, discoveries and the right of backfilled works.
. slipping: there are usually superficial shifts, affecting small volumes (e.g. rigoles of rinsing, dandruff slides, etc.) and deep slides that may involve large volumes. They require that the deposition works have sufficiently large slopes. The studies carried out by INRIS in the context of the French Charbonnage files revealed that the large-scale stability of all the heaps was ensured: the expected disorders are therefore similar to superficial landslides, the intensity of which is generally limited to a few exceptions.
Heating and flooding (at the level of the heaps) identified in the mining sectors can also be added.
