The dataset contains Natura 2000 sites under the Birds Directive in the Great East also known as Special Protection Areas (SPAs).
These areas form part of the Natura 2000 network of Community areas for the protection of habitats and species of Community interest. Special Protection Areas (SPAs) are sea and land sites particularly suitable for the survival and reproduction of wild bird species listed by the Minister responsible for the environment or which serve as breeding, moulting, wintering or relaying areas for migratory bird species.
