Priority Rural Development Areas (RDPs) are areas eligible for concerted planning programmes for rural areas under contract plans, as well as priority rural areas for the award of grants for habitat improvement.

The TRDPs comprise all the areas eligible for the European Union’s rural development policies for the period 1994-1999 (Objective 5b), as well as the most rural parts of the areas covered by Community industrial redeployment policies for the same period (Objective 2). In addition, certain areas lagging behind in development (Objective 1) and certain territories taken into account in order to ensure the continuity of the areas selected.
The concept of Rural Revitalisation Zone (RRA) extends that of Rural Priority Development Territory (RDP)
