Dataset description

CEN PACA operates throughout the PACA region, rich in a wide variety of faunistic, floristic and landscaped landscapes through the management of 72 sites representing more than 52 000 ha. An exceptional natural heritage The spaces managed by the Conservatory include diverse environments (coussouls of Crau, plain and massif des Maures, plateau de Calern, Marseille archipelagos...) and varied habitats (alpines, dry lawns, ponds, temporary streams, cliffs, ripisylves, ponds and marshes...). These exceptional sites benefit from one or more protective measures: by-laws, land or contract. Land and contractual protection The preferred instrument of CEN PACA for the protection of natural environments is land control and control of use. He is thus manager of land owned or owned by other partners (Conservatoire du Littoral, the State, local authorities, individuals, etc.). It also manages sites for which he is a tenant (30-year-old leases) and sites under management agreement. Regulatory protection Some sites, in addition to land and use protection, are protected by regulatory measures. This is the case of the communal forest of Châteaudouble, the calanque des Renaïres and the valley l’Averon in Martigues or the islon of the Barthelasse in Avignon, which benefit from a Prefectoral Order of Biotope Protection (APPB). CEN PACA manages two national nature reserves: the national nature reserve of the Coussouls de Crau and the national nature reserve of the Riou archipelago. Finally, 36 sites managed by the conservatory are in Natura 2000 under the Habitat Directive and 17 under the Birds Directive.
