The layer represents the surveillance zones around the positive traps and outbreaks detected for the red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus). The surveillance zone corresponds to an area of 200 metres around a recent detection point for the red palm weevil. The red palm weevil is currently one of the most important palm pests. In France at the end of 2012, it was listed in three regions: Corsica, Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. The red weevil attacks exclusively on palm trees. In the Mediterranean regions, the two most sensitive varieties are the date palm “Phoenix dactylifera” and the Canary palm “Phoenix canariensis”. The palm dies suddenly, the first symptoms of attack appear late after the infestation.
