The purpose of hunting and wildlife reserves is to protect migratory birds and endangered species and to develop tools to manage wildlife and their habitats. Hunting and wildlife reserves are established, depending on their interest, by the Prefect (Article R 422-82 EC) or by the Minister responsible for hunting (national reserves Article R422-92 EC). Hunting and wildlife reserves established by prefectural decree are established at the request of the holder of the right to hunt and prohibit all hunting. They play an important role in preserving wildlife and, in particular, species that can be hunted. They also most often contribute to the protection of wildlife habitats and habitats. Established by Ministerial Order, National Hunting and Wildlife Areas are hunting and wildlife reserves of particular importance (Article R.422-92 of the Environmental Code): — either because of their extent; — either because they harbour species whose numbers are declining in all or part of the national territory or species of remarkable qualities; — either on the basis of scientific, technical studies or practical demonstrations pursued there.
