Analysis of spatial structures in the southern half of the Regional Natural Park of Millevaches in Limousin.
The first step in understanding the territory is based on an objective analysis of its morpho-geography, without paying attention to land use.
Often absent, at best present through transparency in contemporary cartographic representations, relief, as a water-based geological base, is the most objective of the data.
Through the use of sections, diagram blocks and other hypsometry, the landscape delivers its main keys to understanding through the identification of spatial structures.
These same structures form the fundamental basis for establishing landscape units and their contours in the most accurate manner.
Among them were identified:
— the trays, upper, intermediate and lower according to their altimetry,
the valleys, which bind the plateaus between them,
— the peaks or puys that make up the collective horizon,
— alveolas, which are depressions within the upper plateau, such as urns collecting water and often occupied by peatlands.
