Statistical Analysis of Bocagère Dynamics in Normandy This study aims at photo-interpretation of the elements of the bocage in the Normandy region within a sample of circles of 300 metres radius regularly distributed throughout the territory. The development of an indicator of bocagère dynamics was agreed by DIREN in 2002 as part of a work in conjunction with the University of Caen (CRESO Laboratory). In circles of 300 metres of radius distributed regularly per cluster of 4 in Normandy territory, the hedge mesh analysed makes it possible to define on each of these sectors or on groupings of territory two indices:
— a linear index I(li) determined in km per km² that reflects hedge density
— a consistency index I(co) which makes it possible to assess the complexity of the bocage concerned. It is defined from the count of hedge intersections, weighted according to their complexity (A) and the number of free ends (E) according to the formula: I(co)=(A/(AE)).
