Plans for the prevention of environmental noise (PPBE) were introduced as part of the transposition into French law of the European Directive 2002/49/EC of 25 June 2002 on the assessment and management of environmental noise. They are defined by Articles L.572-2, L.572-6 et seq. of the Environmental Code.
On the basis of the diagnosis of noise maps, a tool also put in place on this occasion, the PPBEs set out the measures planned by the competent authorities to deal with noise problems. The objective of PPBEs is to prevent the effects of noise, to reduce noise levels if necessary, and to protect quiet areas. The aim is both to identify the ongoing actions and to define which actions will be implemented in the coming years.
The data N_BRUIT_PPBE_S_075 lists the PPBEs developed in the Paris department, whether they are existing documents or older documents that have expired. The noise control plan approved in 2006 by the City of Paris does not appear, since — although the objective is comparable — it does not constitute a PPBE as such.
