Different ways of managing aquifers have been put in place, which must eventually allow for the sustainable exploitation of groundwater resources. They are intended to prevent difficulties which may arise particularly during periods of drawdown for shallow water bodies such as the multilayer aquifers known as Beauce or Champigny. They can also prevent potential conflicts of use and ensure heritage management of the resource as for the captive water body of the Albien-Néocomian.
In particular, the management of tablecloths is defined through the SDAGE. Some aquifers are classified as water distribution areas by an ERA decree of the Basin Coordinating Prefect so as to increase control over the water withdrawals carried out there.
The Loiret department depends on the two Loire-Bretagne and Seine-Normandie basins. The classification on the department concerns 3 tablecloths and 17 aquifers.
The inclusion of a resource (watershed or aquifer system) in the Water Distribution Area (REA) is the means for the state to ensure a more refined management of sampling requests from this resource, through a lowering of the thresholds for reporting and authorisation of sampling.
