Dataset description

These areas are defined in Haute-Loire by Prefectural Order No 2015/051 of 14 December 2015 on the basis of evidence of presence or attacks. The amended Order of 19 June 2009 on the operation to protect the environment in rural areas concerning the protection of herds against predation specifies the procedures for this action. The following shall be differentiated: — areas where predation on domestic livestock has been observed once or several times in the last two years, known as the ‘first circle’; — areas where preventive action is needed due to the possible occurrence of wolf predation during the current year, called “second circle”. In order to limit attacks on domestic herds and to assist breeders who may be confronted with the presence of predators, support for enhanced guarding, night grouping of animals and the use of protective dogs is available in risk areas defined annually by prefectural decree (measure 767 of the Regional Rural Development Programme). The level of this aid and the commitments linked to it depend on the size of the herd and the duration of grazing in the areas of eligibility.
