INSEE zoning representing urban spaces consisting of urban areas and associated multipolarised communes.
This definition is no longer in force in the new urban area zoning (October 2011).
An urban space is a single unit of several urban areas and associated multipolarised communes. In multipolar urban space, urban areas are either contiguous or interconnected by multipolarised municipalities. This space forms a related set. An urban space consisting of a single urban area is called monopolar.
