Animal Friendly City Label

The Île-de-France Region wants to improve the place of pets in Île-de-France. After publishing a report in February 2020, it proposes to the communes of France to obtain a new label, “Ville ami des animaux”, level 1, 2 or 3. # # the criteria of the label The following shall be taken into account for the award of the label: * **the overall approach** to the communal enhancement of the place granted to pets, * **activities to raise awareness**, to inform and promote this approach among the general public, * **support to animal protection associations** engaged in the municipal territory, * **the creation of public facilities**, * **support for the most vulnerable persons**, * **animal mediation actions**. # # three axes of engagement for candidate cities To become an animal-friendly city, a candidate commune must engage in 3 axes of action: 1. **Promote respect for animal welfare**. _Examples: create a special delegation, train municipal police officers, facilitate the adoption of lost animals..._ 2. **Enrich the place of pets within the city**. _Examples: develop walk spaces, “caniparcs” (spaces for dogs), nest boxes, animal cemeteries... _ 3. **Enhancing the pet’s place among vulnerable citizens**. _Examples: support the presence of pets with people in hospital or living in residential facilities for dependent elderly (Ehpad), set up a veterinary mutual, a solidarity animal grocery store..._
