Municipal indicator to make the link between air quality and health impacts. Indicator calculated over 3 years based on fine scale modelled annual mean data for suspended particles (PM2.5). Suspended particles, commonly referred to as “dust”, mainly come from the combustion for energy purposes of different materials (wood, coal, oil), road transport (imbursed with exhaust, wear of mechanical parts by friction, tyres...) and from a wide range of industrial activities (steel, incineration, photo heating, boilers). Regulatory oversight covers PM10 particles (less than 10 µm in diameter) but also PM2.5 (less than 2.5 µm in diameter).
