The “DFCI Carroyage” is a geographical mesh system used in France by the actors of the Defense of Forests Against Incendies (DFCI). The metropolitan territory is covered by 100 km squares, identifiable by two letters. Each 100 km square is divided into 25 squares of 20 km side, numbered by peer numbers from 0 to 8. Each 20 km square is divided into 100 squares of 2 km side, numbered by a group consisting of a letter and a number. The elementary unit is a 2-kilometre side tile, defined by 6 characters (example: KD42F7). To designate a point within the elementary unit, the precision is obtained by cutting this square into five zones numbered from 1 to 5.
It was created on a grid based on the extended Lambert II projection. Since 2009, it has been re-projected in Lambert 93 with a slight deformation of angles and surfaces.
Carroyage DFCI (100 km): It covers the metropolitan territory with squares of 100 km of side called by 2 letters, one for the abscisses and one for the ordained. From west to east, the numbering starts at the letter A (Britain) and ends at N (Corsica). Letters I and J are not used. From south to north, the numbering starts at the letter B (Corsica) and ends at the letter N (Pas-de-Calais).
