The figures refer to the population category known as the municipal population, which is one of the three legal populations of a municipality (municipal population, population counted separately, total population) which includes persons habitually resident in the territory of the municipality, persons detained in the prison institutions of the municipality, persons who are homeless in the territory of the municipality and persons habitually residing in mobile homes, recorded in the territory of the municipality which constitute the population outside households — Source: National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE).
The 2019 vintage legal populations come into force on January 1st, 2022.
Due to the COVID-19 health crisis, the annual census survey to be held in 2021 was postponed to 2022. INSEE has adapted its methods of calculating legal populations to compensate for this postponement and continue to produce quality legal populations every year.
