The Bibliothèque nationale de France has chosen to place its descriptive metadata (bibliographic and authoritative data) under the “open license” of the State, which allows its free re-use with obligation to mention the source, from 1 January 2014. The BnF thus confirms its inclusion in the opening movement of public data.
The BnF disseminates several large datasets available in different forms: bibliographical and authoritative records in MARC from the general catalogue of the BnF; notices of the general catalog of the BnF in the form of APIs (SRU, XML); bibliographic records in Dublin Core (OAI-PMH) from the general catalogue of the BnF; the descriptions of digitised documents (OAI-PMH) from the general catalogue of the BnF and from the catalogue BnF archives and manuscripts.
