The MAMs were created in France by Law No. 2010-625 of 9 June 2010 on the establishment of maternal assistants’ houses and laying down various provisions relating to maternal assistants. Decree No. 2012-364 of 15 March 2012 on the benchmark lays down the criteria for the approval of maternal assistants working at home and in MAMs. Until this law, a maternal assistant is a person who takes children, for remuneration, to his or her home. From now on, the maternal assistant can accommodate minors in a house of maternal assistants, i.e. in a room that is not the home of the maternal assistant.
