The energy dependency ratio indicates the share of energy that an economy needs to import. It is obtained by dividing net energy imports by gross inland energy consumption, including fuels delivered to international sea bunkers. The result is expressed as a percentage. In case of a negative dependency ratio, the economy is called “net energy exporter”. A dependency rate above 100 % indicates that energy products are stored.
