The IPFSI reprocesses data provided by customs services for indicators of trade in goods with other countries.
External trade statistics represent cross-border freight traffic. It makes it possible to analyse the flows of goods, in both imports and exports. Goods are all goods that contribute to increasing or decreasing the stock of the country’s material resources.
Foreign trade system
In French Polynesia, foreign trade data are disseminated according to the special trade system:
Imports include goods entered directly for consumption (including repairs and processing) and goods leaving customs warehouses or temporarily admitted for release for consumption.
Exports include exports of local products, i.e. goods wholly or partially produced or manufactured in the country, as well as domesticised exports (imports re-exported in the unaltered state).
Polynesian foreign trade statistics are excluded from:
Goods stored in customs warehouses
Temporary admissions
Re-exports of unprocessed goods from customs warehouses
Direct transit
Passenger traffic
Packages and postal items duty-free
