francearchives.fr — Archives inventories and locations

Inventories of archives held in French archives (national, departmental and municipal archives and public and private bodies), partners of the national archives portal: [francearchives.fr](https://francearchives.fr/). The interministerial portal makes it possible to find the references of several million archival documents, kept in the public archives services. The search engine of the site simultaneously queries the inventories of partner institutions, located throughout metropolitan France and ultramarine. This data is constantly enriched by the addition of new partners. The FranceArchives portal also performs processing on site indexes from XML-EAD search tools that it aggregates. These indexes are transformed into authorities with perennial URLs, are automatically or individually aligned and grouped (i.e. merged when they designate the same geographical entity). **In the GeoName** folder, there is a CSV file per archive that contains, for each location authority (LocationAuthority): • Information about the starting index provided by the archives service (Gogname): URL, wording. • Information about the corresponding entity in the GeoNames (GeoNames) database: URL, wording, geographical coordinates. ** In the BANO** folder, there is a CSV file per archive which contains, for each local authority (LocationAuthority): • Information about the starting index provided by the archives service (Gogname): URL, wording. • Information about the corresponding entity in the National Address Base (BAN): identifier, wording, geographical coordinates. Note: the same place authority (LocationAuthority) can be found in the CSV file of several services, because it can be shared by several services. Data sets derived from the information collected by the portal are offered under the Open License (Etalab), i.e. free of charge and in open formats that allow its re-use, while respecting the legislation in force (respect for the various secrets and interests protected by law). We remind you that all inventories and search tools describing archives less than 150 years old are **likely to contain personal data (DCP)**. The metadata of the downloaded file has been converted to XML (APE-EAD), which is a common denominator between the different versions of AED.
