Dataset description
As part of the ARTISOLS project, the Laboratory Ecology Functional and Environment and LISAH developed a method to help answer the following question: what soils should be protected from artificialisation to ensure food security in the Occitania region in 100 years, while minimising the impact of agricultural activities on the environment? An index of potential multifunctionality of soils has been developed. It is available in two map layers: \- a soil zoning map with a high index of potential multifunctionality \- an intermediate map of the Food, Biomass and Fibre Production Service Its production is based on data from the Harmonised Regional Pedological Reference for the Occitanie Region, at a scale of 1/250 000. The calculation method was developed by the Laboratory Ecology Functional and Environment and LISAH, with funding from the Occitania Region, the ERDF and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The assessment is based on a particular viewpoint on soil multifunctionality: it does not take into account all the services provided by the soil, it assumes an equal preference of users over the services taken into account and it does not take into account current soil valuations (e.g. SIQO). We therefore recommend not to use this data beyond the specific question asked. In addition, since all soils perform functions useful to society, non-zoning soils should be studied using appropriate methods. These soil data are only one of several information, which must be put in context with other data (e.g. environmental zoning, agricultural zoning, development, etc.). Finally, the expected reliability of the data must be in line with the announced usage scale (1/250 000): these data do not have the required accuracy for infra-communal scale expertise. **To cite these data: ** Plan, E., Guiresse, M., Pittatore, Y., Angelini, M., Lagacherie, P., 2021.
