An EPCI of any form may have Sanitation powers assigned by its statutes (Article L5211-5 of the CGCT). That competence may include: waste water collection, AND/OR l' wastewater treatment. A municipality adhering to an EPCI may choose to: — delegate this competence to it — delegate it to another public institution or other body — retain that competence. Areas of competence are thus formed; different from the administrative perimeters of the EPCI. This layer includes the " areas of competence Sanitation" thus defined existing on a department at a given date.
