Departmental Social Indicators (DSI) are the common foundation of an information system shared between national and departmental levels in the main areas of departmental social action. In 2018, the French departments’ net social assistance expenditure amounted to EUR 38.4 billion, of which EUR 35.2 billion for the four main categories of social assistance. Among the net expenditure of the four main social assistance items, the SSA-related allowances and measures account for 34 %, social assistance for children 23 %, social assistance for disabled persons 22 % and social assistance for the elderly 21 %.
