Dataset description
**This dataset lists the “fresh” green spaces of the City of Paris as well as certain parks and gardens of the State classified according to their share of high vegetation (expected shade) and their nocturnal openings.**
This classification proposed by the APUR (Paris Urban Planning Workshop), is the result of the study commissioned by the City of Paris on the vegetation cover and the canopy that made it possible to map the vegetation high more than 8 m high, throughout the territory of Paris.
**The share of high vegetation** makes it possible to determine whether the green space in question is:
* **very exposed to the sun** so rather warm (less than 25 % high vegetation)
* **partially shaded** so moderately cool (from 25 to 50 % high vegetation)
* **very shaded** so fresh (more than 50 % high vegetation).
Example: Some green spaces such as the Champs de Mars are particularly exposed to the sun, so warm, unlike other parks like the Buttes Chaumont are considered very shaded, therefore fresh.
On the spaces of the Bois de Boulogne, Vincennes and large parks the proportion of shade varies little.
**At night, all parks and gardens are considered islands of freshness**. The data indicate **which parks and gardens are open at night** (annual opening, summer opening or exceptional opening when level 3 of the heatwave plan is activated)
**Islands of freshness** **:**
The islets of freshness in Paris are places of welcome, stopover and/or rest, accessible to the general public and identified as a source of refreshment compared to their surroundings in hot or hot periods.
**For more information see[the Caricule page on paris.fr](https://www.paris.fr/pages/la-canicule-5469)**
Since 2017, the City of Paris has put online on paris.fr [**a map of the islets of freshness**](https://capgeo.sig.paris.fr/Apps/IlotsFraicheurUrbaine/) which is enriched each year with a more frequent update.
This fresh island map is based on the **3 datasets published in open data**:
