The system **[ERS](https://ec.europa.eu/fisheries/cfp/control/technologies/ers_en)** (Electronic Reporting and Recording System) deployed in Europe allows fishermen to fulfil their reporting obligations from their **electronic fishing log**.
This system includes a **list of ports** from which fishermen can board or land. In this list, available on the [Master Data Register of CIRCABC](https://circabc.europa.eu/faces/jsp/extension/wai/navigation/container.jsp) the geographic coordinates of the ports are incomplete and are given with an accuracy of one minute of angle, which is rather inaccuracy.
To improve the completeness and accuracy of position data for these ports, **coordinates were geocoded using the [locationiq] API(https://locationiq.com/).**
NB: The position of each point corresponds to the position of the city, not the exact position of the port in the city.
This is useful for the operation of the [Monitorfish](https://entrepreneur-interet-general.etalab.gouv.fr/defis/2020/monitorfish.html), a project in which this work was carried out.
