Focused on the 5 continents, the Ethnography Department of the Museum of Natural History consists of approximately 13,000 objects illustrating the diversity and richness of world cultures. The geographical origin of the pieces is varied, with approximately 4,200 objects from Africa, 3,855 from America, 2,150 from Asia, 1,375 from Oceania and 1,100 from Europe. Of a very diverse nature, they illustrate the main areas of activity of the peoples of the world: Hunting, fishing, picking, body ornamentation, social and cultural life, etc.
These objects, which are not permanently exhibited, are the subject of loans in many institutions in France but also abroad. They are also exhibited at the museum on the occasion of temporary exhibitions.
This dataset lists a set of pieces from mostly Amazonian South America, including their original names, provenances, users, states and collections.
