**Online users of archive services: survey data conducted in 2014 and 2021**
From September 2013 to January 2014, nearly 100 public archival services — in metropolitan France and overseas — participated in the survey conducted by the Inter-ministerial Service of the Archives of France among the public of reading rooms, websites and European Heritage Days. 28,456 questionnaires were collected and stripped. An initial analysis was made in June 2014, followed by an in-depth report published in 2015 (“Who are the archives audiences? Surveys of readers, Internet users and the public of cultural activities in public archive services (2013-2014)”).
This dataset only takes into account the questions of the 2014 survey concerning website users, in order to be able to compare them with the results of the survey conducted in 2021.
The 2021 online survey, also led by the Interministerial Service of Archives de France, collected 27,723 responses from 100 voluntary archive services. The survey is structured around four main areas of questioning: social profiles of the public; their practices; their satisfaction and expectations with regard to the various online services. It was the subject of an analysis report by Voices/Publics in 2021 (“Two billion clicks. Survey of online users of archives”). This is the largest survey on digital heritage uses in France.
In order to allow for judicious data crossovers, the structure and headings of the 2014 survey were harmonised with those of 2021, with a view to publishing a single dataset with a filter on the survey year.
