This table contains the average annual PM10 pollution levels recorded on measuring stations in the Nantes agglomeration since 2007.
FINE PARTICLES
Origins: fine particles come mainly from combustion (fossil fuels, in particular diesel, waste, etc.), from certain industrial activities (cement mills, cereal silos, etc.), and from agriculture (farming and fertiliser application). PM10 = particles with a diameter of less than 10µm.
Temporal evolutions: in urban agglomerations, particulate pollution is higher in winter than in summer. The combined influence of particulate emissions from heaters and often reduced dispersive conditions in winter explains this seasonal fluctuation.
Geographical distribution: pollution by fine particulate matter is stronger near roads and winds of industrial emittering facilities.
