At the end of 2014, medical and social institutions and services offered 489,200 places in 11,250 structures accompanying persons with disabilities. The number of places offered compared to 2010 increased just faster than the total population (+ 5.6 %).
The supply continues to grow faster in services than in establishments: for children, + 15.2 % in services versus + 0.4 % in institutions; for adults, + 10.2 % in services, compared to + 5.4 % in establishments.
In children’s institutions, day care is preferred (61 % of the reception capacity), while for adults boarding is still more important (44 % of the capacity). The mode of reception depends on the type of establishment and the person’s disability.
Management rates vary according to the category of the structure. The majority of staff perform educational, pedagogical and social functions, 17 % hold paramedical functions, 14 % of management functions and 15 % are employed in the general services. The majority of the staff, employed on an open-ended contract, are 73 % women and are 44 years old on average.
