The Risk Prevention Plans (RPPs) were established by the Law of 2 February 1995 on the strengthening of environmental protection.
In 2003, serious fires took place in the Var department, leading the State to prescribe 17 PPR Forest Fires, 4 of which on the Estérel massif: communes of Fréjus, Adrets de l’Estérel, Tanneron and Saint-Raphaël.
The methodology used follows the recommendations of the methodological guide developed in 2002. Wildfire hazard is defined as the probability that a forest fire of a given intensity will occur in a place.
The constituent parameters of the hazard are: the nature of the fuels, the slope, the sunshine and the wind.
__Origin__
The data were created by the NFB’s design office on the basis of an EDR 25 topographic background dating back to 2002.
The hazard map was created by a calculation of the intensity of fire at any point in the territory.
The communal territory is cut into squares or pixel of 15x15m, each square has been characterised by its type of vegetation, its sunshine, and its resulting wind.
The vegetation map was developed from a LANDSAT satellital image with a 30x30m pixel, re-sampled in 15x15m pixel corrected by field visits. Wind modeling was done by pixel of 150 m, the topography per pixel of 50 m.
The division by municipality took place later, on the basis of the BDCARTO@IGN2014.
